The Tudor Submariner was the result of Rolex's frequent use of Tudor as a platform to test out new ideas and designs. The model was created to provide water resistance down to 200 meters (660 feet), making it a professional tool watch for divers. The close relationship between Tudor and Rolex is further demonstrated by the Rolex signatures found on both the caseback and crown. Reference 94010 Reference 94010 was introduced in 1975, powered by a modified ETA movement: the caliber 2776. These calibers were fitted with a hacking seconds feature that allowed for a more accurate time setting. Several dial variations can be observed on this model. The reference was available with a number of dial variations during its production run. One of the most sought-after was the 'Snowflake' configuration, characterized by its square hour markers and snowflake-shaped hands. The current example was made near the end of the reference's manufacturing cycle, when the famous 'Mercedes' hands took the place of the snowflake hands. The dial also adopted round hour markers and triangular markers at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock, a transitional design that makes this piece especially desirable to collectors.
