Description

Tavannes Watch Co. Purebred Arabian Horses

A very fine gold enamel pocket watch. Both spring lids are decorated with radial guilloché pattern and translucent blue enamelling in a strikingly white, narrow border. The front shows the exquisite enamel of two Arabian horses. The Tavannes Watch Co. was founded in 1891 by watchmaker Henri-Frédéric Sandoz of Le Locle (1851–1913) and named after the town of Tavannes. As early as 1870, Sandoz had founded the company 'Henri Sandoz & Fils' in Le Locle. He focused on the machine-based production of watches and extended this approach to include repeater watches. Between 1889 and 1907, he registered 39 patents in his name for improvements of watches, and a further 11 patents were filed by the Tavannes Watch Co. SA under his leadership until his death in 1913.
