The Watch Monaco was made famous by Steve McQueen in the film Le Mans in 1971; since then, this has been an absolute icon and rightly so! Love or hate TAG, respect for Monaco is universal within the watch world! Our 2016 TAG Heuer Monaco Blue Cal. 11 "Steve McQueen" CAW2111P has a 39mm polished and brushed square stainless steel case, the subtle fold along its flanks leads to stubby lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 47mm, and a case thickness of 14mm to ensure a comfortable fit on your wrist. Down the right side, we have sloped chronograph pushers and, on the left side, a signed crown in the centre, reflecting its motorsport heritage. The vertical brushed bezel holds a bevel-edged flat sapphire crystal that sits above the dynamic blue “Steve McQueen” dial. Large polished applied steel indexes surround an outer minute track with lume pips and red accents; at 3 o'clock, a recessed white square sub-seconds register; at 6 o’clock, a framed date window; and finally, at 9 o’clock, a recessed white square 30-minute register. Polished steel hands have luminescence infill and red accents, complemented by a red tapered chronograph hand; at 12 o’clock, we have the vintage style “Monaco”, and the Heuer motif, “Automatic Chronograph” at 6 o’clock completes this striking sports chronograph. On the reverse, a screwed-down case back with deep engraving of the watch details, inside an automatic TAG Heuer Cal. 11 movement (based on the Sellita SW300-1 a), 59 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, its distinctive chronograph is a Dubois-Depraz 2006 module. The watch comes fitted on a Heuer 22mm leather rally strap with a Heuer signed deployment buckle, and it also comes with its Heuer Steve Mcqueen presentation box, swing tag and paperwork.
Personal Note As a lover of vintage, and typically smaller, vintage watches there are a few exceptions I would make for my personal collection with bigger modern watches, this TAG Heuer Monaco "Steve McQueen" is one of them. Whilst I would love to have a vintage original, the prices have continued to creep up and finding a truly original example is only getting harder, but this reference CAW211P offers a great alternative, especially once pre-owned and at this price, the value is undeniable. I would not hesitate to book an appointment to view this watch today!
The Brand Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer. It features many models and configurations, expanding the possibilities to the fullest. In 1958, Jack Heuer, Edouard’s son, joined the company. In 1962 the first generation of Autavia was launched and famously worn in the 1970s by Formula One drivers such as Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Emerson Fittipaldi, Clay Regazzoni, Mario Andretti, and many more. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A. offered a bid in 1999 that was accepted by TAG Heuer.
