Seiko Presage Craftsmanship Series Arita Porcelain Dial White Men's Watch SPB445J1 Arita Porcelain was first produced in the early 17th century in Arita, Saga Prefecture in northern Kyushu. Its 400 year history includes centuries of export to Europe and a broad range of technical innovations by artisans. Today, an innovative process has created the Arita Porcelain dial that is the centerpiece of the new Presage collection. Hiroyuki Hashiguchi, an Arita Porcelain craftsman, and his team Shingama, collaborated with Seiko to produce dials from a new type of high strength Arita Porcelain that is four times harder than normal porcelain. The dials are made by a multi stage process that includes firing three times at different temperatures and utilizing thicker layers of porcelain to create a deep natural curve that produces a three dimensional shape. This masterpiece features a “Hakuji” dial that showcases the pure white hue of porcelain through a transparent glaze application. To maintain the porcelain's luster, simple bar indexes are used, enhanced by the curved surface of the dial's outer edge. Measuring 31.6mm in diameter, the dial is adorned with a delicate pattern just inside the indexes, and the sub-dial at the 6 o'clock position is recessed for nuanced shading. The case design strikes a balance between grace and precision. A multi-row bracelet with contrasting finishes securely holds the watch on the wrist, enhancing the Arita Porcelain dial's brilliance. The tips of the minute and seconds hands are bent towards the dial, ensuring heightened legibility by bringing them closer to the markers. A dual-curved sapphire glass reduces the case thickness, while a super-hard coating protects the case and bracelet from scratches.
