Manufactured in 1981 by Daini Seikosha. The King Quartz line represented Seiko’s continuation of the King Seiko philosophy into the quartz era. This reference was comparably premium as it uses a Twin Quartz movement - two quartz crystals for temperature compensation, rated to approximately ±10 seconds per year. This is significantly higher than standard quartz watches at around ±15 seconds per month. It also has a rare fine-adjustment mechanism: turning the crown in its normal position allows the seconds hand to move forward or backward in one-second increments, making precise manual time-setting much easier. Such mechanisms have sjnce been phased out of modern Seiko quartz watches today. The dial has a gentle white textured snowflake finish that catches light beautifully across its surface. This is paired with faceted applied indices, a slim baton handset, and a clear crystal with no scratches. The case and bracelet complement the dial with a distinct wood-grain-like finishing - well-defined, with minimal signs of wear. The case measures approximately 35x40mm. The original integrated bracelet is clean and fits comfortably up to ~21.5cm wrist. Overall, this is a highly wearable and collectible King Twin Quartz that sat near the pinnacle of Seiko’s quartz era - perhaps with further historical significance to be appreciated as quartz makes a quiet resurgence today.
