An 18th century French diamond and ruby set skeletonized Romilly Paris yellow metal pocket watch, circa 1770, comprising a white enamel dial with numeral hour markers, rose cut diamond set half hour dot markers and Arabic outer seconds markers, the hands set with diamonds and rubies, the bezel also set with rose cut diamonds and alternate mixed cut rubies, glazed case to reverse similarly stone set, tri coloured gold case with foliate decoration to edge, further rubies/diamonds set to case opening, bow and crown, case diameter approx 45mm, front opening skeleton movement decorated with a ruby and diamond set garland of flowers, swags and foliage, movement signed Romilly Paris, total gross weight approx 77gms, together with matching stone set watch key and chatelaine components, with yellow/white metal, enamel, ruby, diamond and cut steel decoration, small brush, later enamel hinged box containing enamel playing cards, a cannon charm and later miniature mother of pearl knife along with written notes, NB damages and losses to chatelaine components ribbons degraded NB- This exceptional 18th-century French pocket watch was intricately crafted by renowned Master Watchmaker Jean Romilly who boasts ties to both the Royal Family and the iconic Madame de Pompadour.
