The first Submariner was marketed in 1953 and soon became an important diving aid. Much of the appeal of the watch was also due to its appearance on the wrist of James Bond in several of his films, so much so that the secret agent’s name has become inextricably linked to all Submariners “without crown guards”. Historically, the Reference 5508 was the last Submariner to guarantee a depth of 100m-330ft and was produced for five years between 1957 and 1962.
