Comments Mark Six Dial. The serial number 368xxx dates this Ref 1680 Red Rolex Submariner to 1973. The watch comes with a period-correct 9315 ref Rolex Oyster bracelet with 280 endlinks. The serviced caliber 1570 is running accurately and is averaging +/-2 seconds per day with a high amplitude of 277° degrees and 0.1 beat error. The non-repainted but professionally relumed dial is an absolute showstopper: the tropical dial has developed an amazing rainbow patina. The pictures of this beautiful and unique patina - which were taken with a microscope - are in the listing. The bezel insert, that was exchanged 30 years ago and is cracked, has faded to a chocolate brown color. Beside the bezel insert and the relume on the dial, we believe the watch to be fully factory original and aged naturally. This Rolex Red Submariner is one of the most exciting examples currently on the market. Why is it a Mark Six dial? The MK6 is the last iteration of the “feet first” dials. This is immediately and unmistakeably identifiable as it is the only one to feature “closed sixes” in the depth rating. The red “Submariner” name is stamped directly in red (no white base layer) onto the dial. The production period for Mark 6 dials was between 1973-1976.
