Rolex Vintage Submariner 1680 "Red Sub"

19,545.86 1970 105014 Vintage Mens No Box or Papers Stainless Steel Acrylic 40mm Stainless Steel Timing 2588XXX Black w/ Tritium hour markers, Tritium hands & Tritium lume 1575 Automatic Bidirectional Date Stainless Steel Oyster Rivet Oysterclasp This Submariner is in great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The back of the 11 o'clock lug shows some wear. The inner case back is engraved "1680 I. 70". The serial and reference numbers are clearly visible. The bezel insert is in overall good condition with normal signs of wear and scratches; it has faded slightly and presents as a dark grey color depending on the lighting. watch has retained its correct non-triplock crown (no 3 dots).  The matte dial is in great, attractive condition with some patina/ light wear. The dial has a darker mark in the center near two-o’clock that can be hard to notice. The edge of the dial has some wear. The lume on the dial has developed patina aged to an even pale yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume has aged to a similar color as the lume on the dial. This watch has a C&I USA Oyster rivet bracelet with 12 links; the clasp is stamped "7-71" indicating its from 1971. The bracelet is in good condition overall with normal wear and some stretch between the links which isn’t uncommon. Some of the lower links on the 12 o’clock side show wear from rubbing.   Rolex introduced the reference 1680 around 1969 and it was in production until roughly 1979. This was the first Submariner to feature the date function and Rolex still offers date and no-date models to this day. This example has the word "Submariner" written in red text and collectors refer to these as the "Red Submariner." Rolex did this until around 1975 and then they switched to all white text.  Collectors have identified six different "Red" 1680 dial variations. This watch features a Mark IV dial, distinguished by the feet-first depth rating with open 6s and red "Submariner" text painted over white text.
