Vintage Rolex Submariner 1680 Red Sub

This vintage Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 from circa 1970 is a prized collector’s watch, known for its distinctive and rare “Red Sub” dial. Its 40mm stainless steel case and matching Oyster bracelet reflect the rugged yet refined design the Submariner line is famous for, while features like the acrylic crystal and rotating bezel preserve its classic dive-watch character. Powered by the reliable Rolex Caliber 1570 automatic movement with a date function, it stands as an iconic piece representing an important era in Rolex history. This Submariner is in overall great, honest vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with some scratches and nicks throughout. The tips of the lugs have some indentations. The inside caseback is engraved "1680 1 70." The caseback has some wear. The serial and reference numbers are clearly visible with the text having some wear from years of end link wear. This watch has retained its correct non-triplock crown (no 3 dots) and it has some wear/ indentations. The bezel ring has remained sharp. The bezel insert is in overall great condition with patina, scratches and normal signs of wear throughout; it has faded throughout giving it a gunmetal grey look with hints of blue depending on the lighting. The pip is a later replacement. The matte black dial is in great condition with some light patina. The lume has developed patina and aged to a striking yellow color. The hands have developed patina, the lume has developed patina and aged to a bit lighter of a yellow than the lume on the dial, this is not uncommon. It has a 9315 folded Oyster bracelet with 11 links, no. 280 end links and divers extension. The clasp is stamped with a date stamp of "3 70." This bracelet has a divers extension stamped "PAT. PEND." The bracelet is in overall good, honest condition with normal signs of wear and some stretch between the links which is not uncommon for this style bracelet. The crystal is a Rolex service replacement and this comes with the "Top Hat" crystal that was on it previously.
