Despite its full yellow gold configuration, the model was tightly based on its stainless-steel counterpart, the reference 16610, using the same newly introduced calibre 3135 featuring a convenient hacking seconds function and quick date setting. The present example features the unique serial engraved on the rehaut on the as opposed to between the lugs, it also features a "closed case" with solid endlinks. These are features found only on a few pieces close to the end of the production of the 5 digit Submariner line. 16618 M-serials are scarce, with only a handful in the M serial range and all 16618 were Z serial onwards, this provides an fantastic opportunity for transitional Rolex collectors to acquire a truly exceptional example.
