In the 1930's through the 50's, in the midst of their high output of utilitarian Oyster sports watches, Rolex also made much more elegant dress watches. These fine wristwatches often combine a superior hand-wound mechanism with beautiful aesthetics.
The elegant and uncommon dress Rolex Precision showcased in today's offering is a prime example of this phenomenon. It features classically elegant styling and a well-executed Rolex cal. 1210 handwound movement.
As a smaller mens size, it's well-suited for someone who does not have large wrists.
Made for the English market, the signed Rolex case is stamped with Edinburgh hallmarks from 1959. It features lugs that have a lovely side facet and light silver dial with Arabic numerals that has a timeless vintage style.
It has a less common sweep seconds function and more technical dial with 1/2 markings that served the needs of men in technical, sporting, and racing fields. We really like the combination on the watch - its pleasingly blends a distinctive dress style with high performance.
But what is most striking about the watch is its incredible restored condition.
It has all of its original parts down to its Rolex signed crown. It has just finished a true expertly done restoration - it presents in gorgeous condition.
Its case presents as mint with only light signs of previous polishing. Its dial has been expertly restored and presents as mint.
As part of the restoration, its movement has just been overhauled by a Master Watchmaker (a $695 value). It continues to run strong and true, keeping very accurate time.
