A 'GOLD SHELL' ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE WATCH the circular white dial signed Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified, with black Roman index and gilt 5-minute markers, gilt hands, date aperture and cyclops at 3 o'clock position, 34mm diameter case with screw-down crown and steel case back, fitted with aftermarket brown crocodile grain strap with gilt buckle, accompanied by the original Rolex warranty dated August 1983 and wallet, together with an original gold plated buckle and service documentation dated June 2022 from a non-Rolex source. Rolex produced "Gold Shell" watches between 1954-1992 and this model between 1983-1992. Typically at the time, gold plated watches had a coating approximately 10-20 microns thick but this series had a sheet of precious metal, usually 14ct Gold, approximately 240 microns thick applied to the stainless steel case. The inner bezel and the case back were left as steel thus differentiating between models in the collection which were composed entirely of gold. Watch is currently functioning but timekeeping not tested, case shows only light signs of wear with minor marks and surface scratches.
