While Rolex might be best known for their robust tool watches, they have also famously ventured into the realm of far more luxurious designs too, with models like their Pearlmaster, Day-Date and several others coming to mind of the modern collector. However, Rolex, even in the middle 20th century, were exploring the more luxurious side of watchmaking with their Haute Joaillerie collection. Typically focused on women, this collection was made up of small watches, like the ref. 8792 that we have here, which would be made of precious metals and adorned with gems such as emeralds, sapphires, rubies or, in the case of this example, diamonds. Boasting a svelte 18kt white gold construction, this manual-wind example boasts a lavishly diamond-set bezel and an equally lavish diamond-set bracelet that combine to create an intensely exclusive aesthetic that is endemic of the level of craftsmanship that Rolex has been capable of since their inception. THE DIAL Boasting a simple silver dial with applied hour markers, this example's understated dial contrasts its overwhelmingly luxurious diamond-set bezel and bracelet. THE CONSTRUCTION Much in keeping with the style of its time, this ref. 8792 features a small circular case with a thin bracelet that has been adorned with diamonds across its entire surface in a display of pure opulence and extravagence.
