As for the condition, the watch was serviced by Rolex in 2021 and it wears beautifully. To proceed with the service, replacement of the sapphire crystal was necessary to maintain water resistance. Rolex also fitted a new crown, though the original was thoughtfully returned and is included, offering the next owner the choice to preserve its exact historical components. During this service, the watch was left as is and unpolished (although it has been polished previously). Our commitment has been to preserve its originality as much as practically possible since our acquisition. The timekeeping is excellent, and its overall cosmetic condition is beautifully presented in the accompanying photographs. As expected for an 18ct gold Jubilee bracelet approaching four decades of age, it exhibits the characteristic stretch and wear that speaks to its rich history; however, once sized to the wrist, it provides a remarkably comfortable and secure fit. The timekeeping is excellent.

To own a Rolex is to possess a piece of horological legend, an emblem of unparalleled excellence. From the pinnacle of Swiss craftsmanship emerged the GMT-Master, born in the golden age of air travel to empower adventurers and global leaders alike, effortlessly mastering time zones across continents. This 16758 transcends mere utility, transforming a legendary pilot's companion into an object of profound desire, meticulously crafted entirely from opulent 18ct yellow gold. This is more than a timepiece; it's a bold declaration of success, an artifact of luxury that whispers tales of sophisticated journeys, making it an extraordinary acquisition for the discerning collector. It's worth noting that Rolex has recently honoured this luxurious pairing of full yellow gold and Jubilee bracelet with the contemporary GMT-Master IIreference with the same black colourway 126718GRNR, a testament to the timeless appeal of this configuration seen here in its vintage form.
This 16758 has a 40mm Oyster case, a perfectly balanced and timeless size that commands presence without overpowering the wrist. These vintage pieces also have a thinner and more refined profile than contemporary examples. If we cast our eye to the dial we are greeted with an original ‘nipple’ dial that has incredible patina, reminiscent of a ‘Starry Night’. It’s features like this which make vintage watches completely unique, you will not find another dial like this. Complementing this is a bi-directional rotating bezel, featuring a classic black insert to match the dial. At the beating heart of this GMT-Master is the Rolex Cal. 3075 automatic movement, a COSC-certified chronometer movement, the introduction of which added a ‘quickset’ date to the GMT Master. Completing its distinguished appearance is the solid 18ct yellow gold Jubilee bracelet with a concealed Crownclasp. While the 16758 typically came on an Oyster bracelet, the presence of this Jubilee bracelet creates a distinct and refined aesthetic, offering enhanced comfort and a dressier appeal. Protecting the watch itself is the sapphire crystal glass with magnifying cyclops.

Our commitment has been to preserve its originality as much as practically possible since our acquisition. This extends to the bezel insert: while a crisp, new black insert is readily available from Rolex St James for approximately £80, we have consciously chosen to present it in its current state, celebrating the genuine evolution of a watch that has truly lived. The timekeeping is excellent, and its overall cosmetic condition is beautifully presented in the accompanying photographs. Along with the watch itself comes the Rolex service box, service document and service card, an invoice for your purchase and a certificate showing the serial has a clean history on the lost and stolen registries.
