Yes, originally designed for cave explorer in the 70s, this is a watch that has seen many an improvement over the decades. A design overhaul, full GMT functionionality, the addition of a white dial, and various movement upgrades bringing us to 2011, with the release of the ref 216570. In honor of the Explorer II’s 40th anniversary, the 216570 includes a new case size, chromalight lume, solid center linked bracelet, and of course the orange dial text and GMT hand. From spelunking to the boardroom, it’s a true go anywhere do anything watch, and this is a fantastic double boxed and card set from 2014 ready to go! REF: 216570 SERIAL: Scrambled 81516XXX YEAR: 2014 DIAL: Another change for this reference is the larger hour markers, bringing a whole lotta lume to the table! The black and orange is such a cool combo, and as you can see even under macro both the dial and the sapphire crystal look fantastic! CASE: 42MM brings just a hint more to the stainless case while still wearing beautifully (photographed on my 6.6 inch wrist.) Incredibly clean, with only very light wear throughout. I believe it to be unpolished (look at that bezel brushing) and all in I think you’d be hard pressed to find a cleaner 10-year-old example! MOVEMENT: Service history unknown but the cal 3187 automatic is winding and setting like butter and keeping incredible time, as you’d expect, with timegrapher showing 5 seconds a day and a very healthy amplitude of 313. BRACELET: Comes on it’s original Rolex oyster bracelet which will fit up to app 7.5 inches, Also has only very light wear throughout, a few micro scratches on the clasp but even that presents beautifully, again hard to find one cleaner.
