Pre-owned Rolex Explorer II ref 216570 (2014) marks a major turning point in the collection’s evolution. When it debuted in 2011, it broke from the traditional 40mm format with a beefed-up 42mm case, giving it a bolder wrist presence in line with other Super Case Rolexes of the era. The dial also got the “Maxi” treatment: larger hour markers, fatter hands, and stronger lume. But the real highlight is the return of the bright orange GMT hand, an homage to the original Explorer II ref 1655, affectionately known as the “Freccione.” This generation runs on the in-house caliber 3187 and features long-lasting Chromalight lume for low-light legibility. The watch is offered with either a white or black dial, like the one shown here. The 216570 was discontinued in 2021 when Rolex ushered in the next-gen 226570.
