The very first family of Rolex Daytona was powered by Valjoux manual winding movements from its inception in 1963. It was not until the introduction of the reference 16 520 in 1988 that all the modernized and larger 40 mm case would accommodate a modified Zenith El Primero automatic caliber, internally renamed the Rolex caliber 4030. Together with that reference were introduced also variants in yellow gold, exactly like the present watch. This lot is a truly fantastic example of a reference 16 528, featuring an amazingly preserved case with thick lugs, crisp hallmarks and is highlighted by the fact that its original Rolex sticker is still present on the case back. Considering that the final digit of the reference is “8”, this means that this lot is the luxurious variant of the Daytona, boasting both the case and Oyster bracelet in yellow gold. Getting more into the details of the dial, is it possible to notice the beauty of the black background, extremely sought after by collectors considering its rarity and its beauty perfectly standing out on the gold case of the watch. Moreover, the indexes are not the usual ones, with baton shape, but the more lavish version with diamonds. Last and most important, at 12 o’clock is located the prestigious signature of the American retailer Tiffany & Co. Incredibly rare, these features can be found only on a very limited number of 16 528 specimens and even lower is the number of pieces coming with the Tiffany box and warranty. The watch is, furthermore, published in the Book “Daytona Perpetual” by Pucci Papaleo at page 152–153, confirmed by the letter of the editor himself.
