Rolex Daytona 6265

Description

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Big Red

A highly attractive Rolex vintage "cult" timekeeper with rare Big Red Panda Dial. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6265 was introduced in 1969 together with its sister reference 6263. Produced until 1987, the model was available in stainless steel or gold. Typical features of this generation are the screw-down chronograph pushers, which for the first time enabled true water resistance and justified the addition of "Oyster" on the dial. Inside runs the Rolex calibre 727, an evolved version of the Valjoux 72 and at the same time the final development stage of the classic hand-wound Daytona movement, before reference 16520, an automatic movement based on the Zenith El Primero was introduced in 1988, making the 6265 the last hand-wound Daytona reference. Particularly interesting is the silvered "Big Red" dial with black chronograph registers and the striking red Daytona lettering, which was used in enlarged form from around 1974 and today counts among the most sought-after variants. The luminous dots on the dial are perfect and have aged gently. They are almost entirely intact; only those at 3 and 11 o'clock have been replaced. The watch has the typical engraved steel tachymeter bezel. The case shows sharp edges. The hand-wound movement, calibre 727, is very clean and starts running immediately. The "Oyster Cosmograph Daytona" reference 6265 is a must for most collectors of Rolex timepieces – not only because the watch is a true cult icon but also because of its beautiful and appealing overall design.
