Rolex Daytona 6265 'Big Red, Sigma'

SKU : 7936 Bezel material : Stainless steel Boxed : Yes Bracelet : Stainless steel Oyster bracelet, original Rolex Case Dimensions : 37.5 mm Dial : Silver 'Big Red, Sigma Documents : Original Papers and Rolex Service papers Glass : Plexi glass Caliber : Valjoux 727 Reference : 6265 Year : 1978 A vintage Daytona is rare and coveted, one with a "Big Red" dial becomes even harder to attain, but to spice it up even more: this one also has the "Sigma"! The ref. 6265 has the illustrious distinction of being the last vintage Daytona and the Daytona that has enjoyed the longest production run, from 1971 until 1987 when it was replaced by the automatic Cosmograph. It is characterised by a metal bezel and screw-down pushers. It sports a silver sunbrushed dial with contrasting recessed subdials. This dial configuration is known as a ‘panda’ dial among collectors due to its resemblance with a giant panda’s white face and black eye patches. This specific "Sigma Big Red" dial was in production for a very short period of time. These dials occurs in specific serial ramge intervals, and this example from 1978 (5.5M serial) falls in that batch. The dial is in mesmerising condition without any blemishes and most lume plots are still thick and creamy, matching the luminous compound in the hour and minute hands. The 37mm stainless steel case has been polished but looks amazing, and sports the original MK1 (P301) screw-down pushers. The bezel is strong and the black lacquer is vivid. The original Oyster bracelet is still supplied with the watch, as well as quite some documentation. Alongside the box and papers there is quite some service history.
