A great looking bark finish Rolex Day Date President ref circa 1985 with a factory marine blue diamond dial and interesting Major League Baseball provenance. Featuring a 36mm diameter ref 18078 18K YG bark finish bezel and bracelet with sapphire crystal and stunning marine blue factory dial with subtle dial indexes, gilt printing, and warmly patina’d lume plots and matching gold baton hands. With a tight factory bark finish hidden clasp bracelet with matching J date code for 1985. The case back of this lovely watch bears the shallow engraving of the recipient of this stunning watch, Dave Steib, pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays MLB team, a 7 time All-Star, and in the season commemorated on this watch, had the league leading ERA, and led the Blue Jays to their first post season play ever against the Kansas City Royals. Dave is also tragically infamous for in the course of 5 years, pitching 4 no hitters into the 9 th inning, ultimately losing each of those games! He ultimately succeeded in achieving a no hitter in 1990! The case back of this watch is engraved as follows: D. Steib, ’85 A.L ,E.R.A. 2.48 We cannot say for sure, but we can speculate that Dave was awarded this watch either by the Blue Jays or the American League for achieving the best E.R.A. in 1985.
