Description

Rolex Day-Date 36 Ref. 1803 - Sunburst Silver Dial

When the Day-Date was released in 1956, it was the only complicated Rolex for sale. Hard to believe, but after numerous References and attempts to capture the market with more complicated timepieces, it seemed like buyers were not particularly fond of Rolex’s previous attempts at complicated wristwatches. All of that changed when President Dwight D. Eisenhower was spotted wearing on Rolex in particular: a Day-Date. The model has since become known worldwide as ‘The President’ and as symbol of success and prestige. The Day-Date was available for many years on a matching solid gold bracelet (called a 'President' bracelet), but also on a leather strap like the example that we have here.  The Reference 1803 that we have here dates to circa 1964 and remains in strong overall condition, with a thick case showing only light wear, with a fantastic sunburst silver dial with a matching handset within. It comes fitted to one of our Oliver & Clarke branded handmade leather straps with a steel buckle. All in all, this is an 'elevated' piece while remaining very much under-the-radar.   Condition: Case: Previously refinished showing light wear throughout with no significant blemishes or damage. Replacement steel crown. Dial: Fantastic overall showing light, even cream patina throughout with lume loss at 10 + 11 markers with matching handset. *Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.Rolex Day-Date 36 Ref. 1803 - Sunburst Silver Dial $ 10,950 Basic Info Listing code K3D8E0 Brand Rolex Model Day-Date 36 Reference number 1803 Dealer product code OC2331 Movement Automatic Case material White gold Bracelet material Leather Year of production 1976 (Approximation) Condition Very good (Worn with little to no signs of wear) Scope of delivery No original box, no original papers Location United States of America, California, Los Angeles Price $10,950 [Negotiable] Availability Item is in stock Caliber Movement Automatic Caliber/movement Automatic-winding chronometer certified caliber by Rolex Case Case material White gold Case diameter 36 mm Try it on Bezel material White gold Crystal Plexiglass Dial Silver (solid) Dial numerals No numerals Bracelet/strap Bracelet material Leather Bracelet color Brown Lug width 20 mm Size guide Clasp Buckle Clasp material Steel Functions Date When the Day-Date was released in 1956, it was the only complicated Rolex for sale.
