ROLEX, AN 18CT GOLD OYSTER PERPETUAL TURN-O-GRAPH DATEJUST WRISTWATCH, CIRCA 1975, REF. 1625, CASE NO. 3973301, signed champagne dial with the national insignia of Oman in red, bi-directional 'Thunderbird' type bezel, on a jubilee bracelet. 37mm with original Rolex box (interior fittings lacking) This watch was gifted to Lt. Col. David Robinson in 1975 by Sultan Qaboos of Oman. David Robinson was an officer in the intelligence core when he was seconded to the Omanis during the coup of 1970. On retirement, he took a commission in Oman's ORD 'Omans Research Department', later renamed Oman's Internal Security Service. In 1975 he was tasked to set up a college for the ORD to teach Omanis spy craft. On completion in Sohar, David trained the first cadre of officers, one of which went on to be the first Omani Director General of the ISS appointed in 1992. On completion of the college, Sultan Qaboos visited the facility and gifted Lt. Col. Robinson with this watch for his service.
