For Sale is this vintage RolexExplorer Precision Exporer Vintage Watch Ref 5500 Ca. 1962 The Explorer, launched in 1953, set itself apart with a simple design and a highly legible black dial with large hour markers and characteristic 3,6,9 numerals. It is a tool watch, created to tell time accurately, whatever the circumstances and has adorned the wrists of some of the greatest explorers undertaking incredible expeditions (like Sir Edmund Hillary to Mount Everest). This gentleman`s sized Explorer, reference 5500, was first released in 1958 and comes set in a 34mm stainless steel Oyster case with a smooth polished bezel. The black dial features the iconic Tritium 3/6/9 hour numerals, indexes and matching `Mercedes` hands, whilst being protected by a domed acrylic plexi crystal. Driving the watch is the automatic calibre 1520 workhorse movement which is safeguarded by solid screwdown caseback. Lastly, this Explorer is completed by a stainless steel Oyster bracelet with folding Oyster clasp, and comes fitted with a screwdown crown ensuring the 10atm (100m/330ft) water resistance.
