Footnotes One of the rarest models ever produced by Rolex, the reference 8171 is one of only two models they created which featured a triple calendar and moon phase, the other being the reference 6062. It was manufactured in a small series between 1949 and 1952 and the unusually large dimensions for the period, 38mm diameter, has contributed to the continuing popularity of this reference today. Its size has also led to its affectionate nickname by Italian collectors of 'Padellone' meaning 'frying pan'. Previous
