Model reference 6494. HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH? From the serial number between the lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1957. The serial number is rubbed, but just legible. Inside the case back is also marked 157, meaning this was produced in the first quarter of 1957. CONDITION With a smooth bezel and no cyclops date magnifier, this doesn’t stand out like many Rolex’s might. But you still get the famous Oyster case, and the open 6 and nine on the calendar. The calendar is also known as a roulette date, as all the odd numbers are black and the even numbers are red. Being manual wind, the case is thinner than most Oysterdate models. The bezel isn’t hallmarked anywhere we can see, so we have to declare it as yellow metal. If an Oysterdate has been polished badly in the past the lugs can go pointy, but these are nice ans square. The screw down crown is signed and has the underscore, signifying it is the Twinlock design. The movement is Rolex’s 17 jewel calibre 1210, which has centre seconds and KIF shock protection. The dial and hands have been relumed to a high standard. The tan leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and buckle. This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
