Its contrasting sub-dials and tachymeter scale positioned on the bezel, rather than the dial, offered optimal legibility, a feature that would later prove equally valuable beyond motorsport. Over time, Rolex’s reputation for producing robust and reliable timepieces led to its adoption by various military forces. Among them was the Fuerza Aérea del Perú (FAP), the Peruvian Air Force, which commissioned a small number of Daytona models, likely intended as presentation pieces for senior officers and accomplished pilots. These Peruvian Air Force-issued watches can be identified by several distinctive details. Most notably, the engraving “Fuerza Aérea del Perú” on the caseback, along with a finely executed military issue number. In keeping with Rolex practices for special and military orders, the final three digits of the serial number are also repeated inside the caseback. Highly sought after by collectors, these pieces stand out not only for their rarity and historical significance, but also for their enduring design. Furthermore, the present example features the highly rare and collectible Sigma dial, where the Sigma symbols are placed either sides of the T Swiss T to indicate the use of white gold for its numerals.
