For starters, the models' various versions had different fonts and layouts on the dial. Early examples said "Cosmograph," and ode to the outer space travel that was a focal point of the 1960s. Not until Rolex became affiliated with the NASCAR races did the brand add "Daytona" to the dial. It is believed that the watch was first available in the United States in 1963, and then in Europe by 1964, and it was offered in stainless steel, 14k gold, and 18k gold. The model is also notable within Rolex's history for being the first watch that the brand offered with the tachymeter scale etched on the bezel, an aesthetic that is not synonymous with the Daytona line. Saleroom notices The dial and hands are without Lume, probably a request by the client as the hands are not the usual skeleton and Lume but are solid. As noted in the description, the watch is manual winding, not automatic.
