Currently this watch is shown with a more current Rolex band to provide a more comfortable fit. However, included with your purchase, is the original riveted Rolex watch band. While Rolex has been making Chronographs since the 1930’s, it was not until the Release of the 6239 that it was finally named and categorized. The first 6239s released did not feature the Daytona name. Originally called the LeMans, it wasn’t long until the push into the US market and Rolex’s sponsorship of the 24-hour Daytona race that the watch was christened with its now infamous name the Cosmograph Daytona. The Rolex 6239 Introduction of two notable features to the brand's Chronographs. The first is the inverse color sub-dials and the second being the engraved tachometer bezel. The Rolex Daytona Cosmograph was designed in 1963 to meet the needs of professional racing drivers, with a reliable chronograph and bezel with tachymetric scale, allowing drivers to measure average speeds of up to 400 MPH. The name is a nod to Daytona, Florida—the home of a passion for speed and motor racing that emerged in the early 20th century. The relationship between Rolex and motor racing strengthened in 2013 when the watchmaker decided to enter the world of Formula 1 as Global Partner and Official Timepiece of the exhilarating sport.
