'Pre-Daytona' Oyster Chronograph, Ref:6234, Serial No.425***, Circa 1959 17-jewel Valjoux Cal.72 manual wind movement with column wheel chronograph, silvered dial with applied polished dart hour markers with luminous tips, black outer 1/5th second divisions with Arabic five minute markers, further outer blue and black telemetre and base scales, polished dagger hands with luminous inserts and blued steel centre chronograph hand, small subsidiary dials at 3, 6 and 9 for constant seconds, 30 minute and 12 hour recording, brushed and polished tonneau form case with screw down Oyster back, screw down crown flanked by twin pushers, fitted 78350 19 Oyster link bracelet with signed folding clasp stamped N5, case, dial and movement signed 36mm. Footnotes The 6234 and 6238 chronograph watches are often referred to as the 'pre-Daytona' due to their similar characteristics and importance in the development of the Daytona model. The 6234 examples were made from 1946 until they were replaced by the 6238 in 1960. During production, the 6234 was available with a white, black or silvered dial with gilt, rose or steel markers and hands.
