Rolex Submariner 5513

Description

ROLEX SUBMARINER REF 5513, CIRCA 1969

A very well-preserved diver stainless steel wristwatch, oyster case, movement automatic calibre 1520, Dial Matte Black, Tritium hour markers and "Mercedes" hands, Stainless Steel Rolex Oyster bracelet signed. Dial case and movement signed. Diameter 40 mm. The Reference 5513 is widely regarded by many collectors as the purest expression of the Rolex Submariner. Produced for nearly three decades, it remains a cornerstone of vintage horology due to its symmetrical, "no-date" dial and rugged tool-watch aesthetic. This example, circa 1969, represents a coveted era for the 5513 as it transitions to the "matte dial" period. The dial has aged gracefully, featuring warm, cream-colored patina on the Tritium plots that perfectly matches the original hands. The stainless steel case retains its strong lines and features the iconic "bidirectional" rotating bezel with a faded "ghost" or sharp black insert. As a non-chronometer rated movement (Cal. 1520), the 5513 offers a clean two-line dial configuration: "Submariner" and "660ft = 200m." This minimalism, combined with the domed acrylic crystal, provides a vintage warmth that modern ceramic models cannot replicate. This is a quintessential collector's piece, offering a direct link to the golden age of diving exploration.
