It wasn't until the 1970s that the vision of COMEX's founder crossed paths with that of the brand with the crown. Created in 1962 in Marseille by Henri Germain Delauze, Compagnie Maritime d'Expertise (better known by its acronym COMEX) quickly became a pioneer in industrial deep diving. In particular, COMEX was instrumental in the development of the parapetroleum industry worldwide. The COMEX name is also associated, to some extent, with the name of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, in the context of the takeover of the Argyronète, with the SAGA project. On Andre Heiniger's initiative, a partnership was formed between Rolex and the Compagnie d'expertise maritime, its divers being allocated a Rolex watch for their mission. This fruitful collaboration inspired Rolex to develop a legendary horological innovation: the helium valve. It first appeared on the reference 5513/5514, then on the Sea-Dweller reference 1665. Numerous tests were carried out in a COMEX hyperbaric chamber to improve it, leading to the current version.
