Das Gehäuse ist im tollen Vintage Zustand. Anhand der gesamten Proportionen würde ich sagen einmal poliert und dies wohl im Zuge eines Services in den späteren 70iger Jahren. Auf alle Fälle sind die Proportionen top, die typisch breiteren Fasen der frühen 70iger perfekt erhalten und auch das matte Finish auf der Gehäuseoberseite ist sehr gut. Tragespuren sind vorhanden, aber dies nicht massiv und perfekt passend zum wunderbaren Vintage Look der Uhr. Der Rückdeckel hat eine Gravur „Gregory Brooks Metzcar“ welche wir belassen haben. So etwas gehört für uns zur Geschichte einer Uhr und wir lieben Vintage ja, weil die Uhren bereits eine Geschichte erzählen die man weiterführt. Übrigens möchte ich auf das Bild des Rückdeckels extra hinweisen. Hier sieht man auch die Gehäuserückseite und die vollständig intakte „Blutrinne“, was nochmals die Qualität des Gehäuses unterstreicht. Nun kommen wir aber zum Highlight dieser Uhr. Es handelt sich um ein perfekt erhaltenes MAXI MK1 Zifferblatt. Das Blatt ist wohl das begehrteste Zifferblatt in einer 5512 und hier stimmt wirklich alles. Klarer Druck und eine wunderbare Patina der Leuchtmasse zeichnen es aus. Anhand des Baujahres kann man vermuten, dass das Blatt vielleicht im Zuge eines frühen Services in den späten 70igern verbaut wurde. Es ist aber auch möglich, dass die Uhr später als 1973 ausgeliefert wurde und daher ein aktuelleres Blatt bekam. 5512 waren damals nicht beliebt, da deutlich teurer als ihre Schwester die 5513. Das führte zu verzögerten Auslieferungen. Die Zeiger sind gleich dem Blatt einfach nur wunderbar. Das Glas ist ein tolles originales t19 superdomed, die Lünette wunderbar scharf und das Inlay ein späteres Inlay, welcher aber eine derart coole Alterung angenommen hat, dass wir es einfach auf der Uhr belassen mussten. Das 93150 Oysterband ist wie die Uhr im feinen Vintage Zustand. Es zeigt leichten Stretch, trägt sich aber wunderbar. Der Schließencode lautet L9 für September 1987 Fazit: Ich hatte in meiner gesamten Uhren-Karriere drei 5512. Die Dinger sind super selten und wenn dann eine Uhr mit dieser Optik angeboten wird, muss man einfach zuschlagen. By checking the total proportions of the case we can say it has been polished maybe once during a service in the 70s. What we can guarantee is that the whole case proportions are top, with the typical wide chamfers for an early 70s case and a very good matte finish on top of the case. Signs of wear are present but in total it’s a lovely vintage case. The caseback has an engraving “Gregory Brooks Metzcar”. We left it, as for us it’s part of the history of the watch and we love vintage because they already have a history which the new owner becomes part off. Please also take a look at the caseback picture again. You can see clearly the fully intact “blood gutter” as we vintage collectors call it and that is another fact for a top case. The highlight of the watch is for sure the dial. It’s a perfect preserved Maxi MK1 dial. It’s the most demanded dial when it comes to 5512 and with this one it just ticks all the boxes. Perfect clear print and a patina of the lume to die for. According to the manufacturing date of the case this dial may be installed to the watch during a service in the late 70s. It’s also an option that the watch didn’t leave Rolex for several years, and was therefore equipped with the current dial configuration when leaving the Rolex factory. The demand for 5512 Subs was not very high back in the days, as they were higher priced compared to 5513 models. The hands are in the same lovely condition as the dial. The plexi glass is a correct old t19 superdomed, the bezel is nice and sharp and the inlay is a later service one which we kept on the watch because it looks just wonderful. The 93150 oyster bracelet is in nice vintage condition. It shows light stretch, but wears perfectly. The clasp code is L9 for september 1987 Fazit: Conclusion: During my whole career i had three 5512. They are hard to find and if you can get one in this configuration you don’t hesitate to buy it for your clients.
