ROLEX Explorer Ref. 5504 Gilt Chapter Ring Dial (1958)

Manufacturer - ROLEX Year - 1958 Reference - 5504 Movement - 1530 Automatic Case Serial - 371058 Material -  Stainless Steel - 36 mm not including crown Case, movement, and dial signed C&I USA Rivet Bracelet stamped '71 Untouched and all original gilt dial with attractive patina Small areas of radium loss to the 6 and 9 numerals, as well as the 11 and 1 markers The hands were previously unstable and damaged and so have been relumed to match the dial The watch nonetheless reads high on the geiger counter - around 1800 pcm confirming the radium to the dial  The case is evidently unpolished, as (especially) an early Explorer should be showing a life-lived, and shows wear from age - the serial and ref. numbers are clear and visible, the lugs and bezel remain thick and correct Service history unknown, the watch though is running strong with an amplitude of 220 running at approximately 3 seconds per day
