Extremely well preserved. Perfectly kept and complete with warranty, original box. Virtually unobtainable in the Rose Gold version Reference 4768 was launched in 1947, it was the first calendar chronograph wristwatch made by Rolex and came to be known as the “Dato Compax”. According to literature, only 220 examples of the model were made. It was available in stainless steel, yellow and pink gold as well as steel and gold (yellow and pink). The reference is fitted with one of the most sophisticated movements ever used by the company, the Valjoux 72C. The elegant case design, large faceted teardrop lugs and the clear dial display render the watch a more elegant look than its sporty Oyster successors. The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. The case is in good condition with light signs of wear and has been polished. The hallmark is visible to it next to the lug at 1 o'clock. The back of the lugs at 6 o'clock have few small nicks to it. The case back is in good condition with light signs of wear and has been polished. The inside case back is stamped '4768' and has watchmaker's marks. The crown is original and the capped pushers show signs of wear with some material lost. The dial has a light patina throughout and has been reprinted. There are scratches in the sub-register at 9 o'clock and near the base of the hands. The hour markers and hands have developed a patina. The plated buckle show signs of wear with a light patina. The days of the week and month are displayed in French. The month wheel appears to be a later replacement. The quick-set date and month functions are working at the time of cataloguing, but the date is a bit sticky. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
