REF. 3484, ANTIMAGNETIQUE CHRONOGRAPH, 18K YELLOW GOLD A rare 18K yellow gold manual-wind chronograph wristwatch with tachymeter and telemeter scales, circa 1940s. Year: Circa 1940s Dial: Gilt champagne dial with outer tachymeter scale to 1000 units, telemeter scale, two subsidiary dials for constant seconds at 9 and 30-minute register at 3, blued steel chronograph hands, signed ROLEX ANTIMAGNETIQUE. Calibre: Manual-wind Rolex 13-lignes chronograph calibre based on Valjoux 23, 17 jewels, column-wheel, signed. Case: 18K yellow gold, snap-on back with serial 65351, inner caseback stamped ROLEX S.A. 31 Victoires Haute Précision Genève Suisse, ref. 3484, 18K 0.750, Swiss hallmarks, signed. Diameter: 36 mm approx. Bracelet/Strap: Black leather strap with gold-tone buckle. Accessories: None. Signature: Dial, movement and case. The Rolex Ref. 3484 chronograph is one of the rarest pre-Daytona chronographs, produced in very small quantities in the 1940s. Powered by the 13-lignes Rolex chronograph calibre based on the Valjoux 23, it embodies the elegant yet technical chronographs of the era, before the advent of Oyster-cased sports chronographs. Examples of Ref. 3484 appear only rarely at auction, particularly in 18K gold. Its combination of antimagnetic case, gilt dial with tachymeter and telemeter scales, and its fine preservation make it an important discovery for collectors. It stands alongside the better-known references 2508 and 3330 as a key witness to Rolex’s early chronograph production, and a milestone for enthusiasts of the brand’s pre-Daytona heritage.
