Rolex GMT-Master 1675/8

Description

Rolex “1675/8 18kt” GMT-Master

Offered here is a lovely and rare Rolex GMT-Master, reference 1675/8 in 18kt yellow gold, circa 1970 (2.8m serial). The 1675/8 is the second iteration of the all-gold GMT-Master, following its introduction in the late 1950s in the reference 6542. The condition on this Rolex GMT-Master is great. The case has likely been lightly polished in the past, showing thick and even lugs, and original beveled edges still prevalent. The original maroon dial shows no major flaws or chips. In similar fashion, the watch retains its original tritium lume on both dial and hands, aged to a golden yellow color on the dial, and a slightly lighter shade in the hands. Further, the watch retains its original all-brown GMT-insert, aged with a lovely fading set in. Finally, the watch is fitted on a Rolex Swiss Jubilee bracelet, dated to 1970; the bracelet will fit an approximate 7.2″ wrist, and has no stretch (likely restored/tightened in the past to factory specifications).

Collectible Features |Rolex GMT-Master 1675/8

Discover all the different variants of this specific reference that can enhance, or limit, this watch's value and collectability.
Tropical Dial
A dial that has aged from black to a brown or caramel color due to prolonged exposure to sunlight and elements. Highly prized for its unique and attractive aging. Greatly increases value due to unique appearance and collector demand.
Rivet Bracelet
A bracelet design with visible rivet heads on the side of the links, characteristic of vintage Rolex models.
Nipple Dial
The "nipple dial" is a term used to describe a specific type of dial found on certain vintage Rolex watches, particularly the Rolex GMT-Master and Submariner models from the 1970s and 1980s. The distinguishing feature of a nipple dial is its hour markers: instead of the usual flat or applied markers, these dials have raised, gold-trimmed markers that resemble small "nipples." These markers are typically made of gold and are filled with luminous material, allowing them to be easily read in low-light conditions. The nipple dial is considered highly desirable among collectors due to its distinctive look and its association with vintage Rolex models.
