Rolex GMT-Master 1675/8

Description

GMT-Master 1675/8 c. 1972

11294 GMT-Master 1675/8 c. 1972 A beautifully patina'd example of a GMT-Master ref. 1675/8. It's in very good condition, with the nipple dial having even patina across all hour markers. The bezel insert is similarly evenly faded, with some light marks and scratches appropriate for its age. The case hallmarks are still present on the underside of the lugs. It's keeping time to 4.7 s/d.\n\nWhile the GMT-Master has its origins as a practical tool watch, these watches have arguably superseded their original purpose. The original references were only produced in steel, but later variants introduced precious metal. A tacit acknowledgement of how watches were increasingly seen as status symbols, the gold watch was unapologetically luxurious. Despite this, they were (and still are) being built with the strictest of Rolex standards in mind, meaning that they're able to back up their flashy appearance with solid and reliable performance. Tropical Dial
A dial that has aged from black to a brown or caramel color due to prolonged exposure to sunlight and elements. Highly prized for its unique and attractive aging. Greatly increases value due to unique appearance and collector demand.
Rivet Bracelet
A bracelet design with visible rivet heads on the side of the links, characteristic of vintage Rolex models.
Nipple Dial
The "nipple dial" is a term used to describe a specific type of dial found on certain vintage Rolex watches, particularly the Rolex GMT-Master and Submariner models from the 1970s and 1980s. The distinguishing feature of a nipple dial is its hour markers: instead of the usual flat or applied markers, these dials have raised, gold-trimmed markers that resemble small "nipples." These markers are typically made of gold and are filled with luminous material, allowing them to be easily read in low-light conditions. The nipple dial is considered highly desirable among collectors due to its distinctive look and its association with vintage Rolex models.
