Rolex Sea Dweller in Steel

Summary of Key Characteristics CIRCA: 1983 CASE MATERIAL: Stainless steel DIAL: Matte black dial with luminous hour markers. Date aperture at the "3" hour marker BRACELET MATERIAL: Rolex Oyster bracelet in steel CASE DIMENSIONS: 40 mm in diameter BRACELET SIZE: 7 1/4 inches SERIAL NUMBER: 7505409 REFERENCE NUMBER: 16660 CALIBER: 3035 MOVEMENT: Automatic The Rolex Sea Dweller is a special version of the Submariner. Originally made for professional divers, the depth rating is 4000 feet, four times that of the Submariner. This was thanks to a helium escape valve, allowing helium molecules to escape from the watch when it is used for prolonged deep diving. The case is also thicker and the crystal is flat, giving it a distinctive look from the Submariner's cyclops magnifier. The present example is a reference 16660, known affectionately as the triple six. It is the last Sea Dweller to have a matte dial and is highly collectible. • Condition: Dial is in excellent condition. The lume plots have an attractive evenly aged patina. Case is excellent, with minimal polishing. Bezel insert is the original "fat font." Movement is running at time of cataloging. Overall, the present example is in excellent condition.
