Footnotes The Rolex Explorer II was first released in 1971 as Reference 1655 using the calibre 1575 movement but also with a fourth hand which rotated once every 24 hours, read from the fixed, engraved 24 hour steel bezel. The watch was introduced as being especially useful for more intrepid adventurers, including pilots and air traffic controllers. The 1655 Explorer II and the 1019 Milgauss are the only Rolex models which use their own type of specific hand style.
