In this case, it’s a yellow gold execution with some real treats. The dial, carved from sleek Onyx, features diamond-set 6 and 9 markers that add both symmetry and flair. A date window rests at 3 o'clock, while the signature coronet anchors the top at 12. The second rarity on this fine Datejust is its 18k gold riveted bracelet. Oddly enough, Rolex stopped using the steel variants by the end of the 1960s (okay, the American-made ones lasted until the late 1970s). But the gold versions were used even into the early 2000s. We imagine Rolex had a small stock and simply used them until they ran out! Anyway, these bracelets are our all-time favourite when it comes to metal bands. All in all, this Datejust is in fantastic condition: the case is thick, the bezel is sharp, and the Onyx dial is perfect — no scratches, cracks, or text loss. The aforementioned ref. 7205 bracelet is also in excellent shape, featuring solid end links and a lovely clasp crowned with the iconic coronet.Furthermore included in the sale is the original punched warranty paper , stating a sale in 1993 in Italy. If you love this gold gem as we do , get in touch ! *some “fun “ facts about Onyx : -In ancient Egypt, the use of onyx can be traced back to the Second Dynasty (c. 2890–2686 BC), where it was shaped into bowls and other functional pottery pieces. -The word Onyx comes from Latin (onyx), which in turn derives from the Ancient Greek ὄνυξ (onyx), meaning ‘claw’ or ‘fingernail’. This name was inspired by the stone's appearance — particularly varieties with pink and white bands, which can resemble the color and texture of a human fingernail. -In ancient Rome, warriors would enter battle wearing onyx amulets engraved with the image of Mars, the god of war, believed to grant them courage in combat. -During the Renaissance, the stone was thought to enhance eloquence in speech. -Persian tradition held that onyx could aid in the treatment of epilepsy. -In England, midwives once used sardonyx during childbirth, placing it between the mother’s breasts to ease labor..
