Description

Rolex

Datejust “Tiger Eye” of 18k gold, ref. 16018. Mechanical movement with automatic winding and date, cal. 3035. Tiger eye dial. “Jubilee” bracelet of 18k gold, ref. 5311. Circumference approximately 20 cm. End link no. 53B. Ø 36 mm. 1978. Accompanied by Rolex box, notebook, hangtag and manual. Rolex’s use of hardstone dials in the 1970s represents one of the brand’s most distinctive and limited experiments. Tiger Eye, a naturally banded quartz stone, was selected for its striking brown and golden tones, each dial displaying a unique pattern. Due to the difficulty of cutting and fitting stone without fractures, Tiger Eye dials were produced in very small numbers and reserved for precious-metal models. Today they are among the most sought-after of all Rolex stone dials. Cased in 18k yellow gold, the ref. 16018 is a strong and correct period pairing, combining the technical boldness of the era with unmistakable visual presence.
