Reference 1586 is part of the noble Rolex Prince Imperial series, considered among the most sophisticated and cultured creations by Rolex in the inter-war periods. The Prince series, which first debuted in the 1930s, became famous for its exceptional chronometric qualities and distinctive design that exhibited the influence of Art Deco style. This design involved the use of geometric shapes, fine proportions, and good readability. In the Imperial model, the shaped case can be found in a rare hexagonal shape and represents one of the most elegant and rare pocket watches made by Rolex. The model is contained in a hexagonal 18k white gold case, with clean, well-defined lines, as would be expected from design from the 1930s. The quality of craftsmanship in the silver dial is exquisite, with brilliant-cut diamond hour markers and baguette-cut diamonds located in the quarter hours. The traditional design of a Prince model with subsidiary seconds serves to illustrate technical accuracy. The watch is complete with its original Rolex chain, as well as its Astrua packaging box. It is a rare and elegant example that perfectly embodies the marriage of Swiss haute horlogerie with Art Deco.
