The Rolex Air-King was introduced in the 1940s as a tribute to the British Royal Air Force pilots of World War II, many of whom favored Rolex watches for their reliability during combat missions. Launched as part of Rolex`s "Air" series, the Air-King stood out for its clean design and legible dial, embodying the brand`s dedication to precision and durability. Over the decades, it has evolved while maintaining its aviation heritage, becoming one of Rolex`s longest-running and most understated models—a symbol of both historical significance and timeless style. This version, the reference 14000 was the first major change in the Air King collection for nearly 40 years. Upgrading the old plexi-glass to a stronger sapphire crystal and upgrading the self-winding mechanism to the calibre 3000 (later upgraded to the 3130 when the 14000M was introduced). This watch comes set in the original 34mm round stainless steel Oyster case, which is fitted with a smooth polished bezel and a twin-lock screw-down crown for a basic water resistance of 10atm (100m/330ft). The dial is a stunning silver sunburst finish with contrasting white minute marks on the chapter ring, applied slim baton hour markers topped with luminous dots and protected by a flat sapphire crystal glass. Lastly, it comes fitted on a matching satin finished stainless steel Oyster link bracelet with folding clasp. Originally purchased in May 2002 and in mint condition for its age, the watch comes supplied with the original inner and outer Rolex box, swing tag, calendar card, translation manual, Oyster booklet, service booklet, Rolex service card (November 2016), leather document holder and perforated Rolex warranty papers.
