The Rolex Deepsea Challenge with the reference number 126067 impresses with its deep black dial. In addition, there is the case with a diameter of 50mm and the Oyster strap made of titanium. The watch has a central second hand and a screw-down crown. As a chronometer, the watch runs very accurately at all times. The Rolex Deepsea Challenge has the caliber 3230 installed in it.
Titanium RLX, a grade 5 titanium alloy selected by Rolex, is characterized by its light weight and resistance to deformation and corrosion. The experimental 904L stainless steel wristwatch that James Cameron used to dive in the Mariana Trench could withstand the pressure of the deep sea, but its weight made it uncomfortable to wear. By using titanium RLX for the case and bracelet of the Deepsea Challenge, the weight of the watch has been reduced. It now weighs 30% less than James Cameron's experimental wristwatch. The bracelet and the entire case, with the exception of the crown protector, feature a particularly eye-catching satin finish. To accentuate the curved contours of the horn bail, the top edges have been beveled and then polished.
The patented Ringlock system is used in Rolex diving watches designed for extreme water depths. This system is the result of continuous research into the Oyster's water resistance: a reinforced case structure consisting of a thick, slightly domed sapphire crystal, an inner compression ring made of nitrogen-alloyed stainless steel, and a titanium RLX case. Thanks to this construction, the Deepsea Challenge can withstand pressure to a depth of 11,000 meters and is also guaranteed water resistant to that depth. Rolex has collaborated with the French company Comex (Compagnie Maritime d'Expertises) to develop a UHP overpressure vessel to test the water resistance of the Deepsea Challenge. Each timepiece is tested in accordance with the standards applicable to diving watches, with a safety margin of 25%, by being subjected to pressure at a depth of 13,750 meters.
