Model reference 1016. HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH? From the serial number between the bottom lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1984. CONDITION The Rolex Explorer was technically launched in 1953, but they made only one watch per year of reference 6350 so finding one is much harder than climbing Everest (Both Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing wore Rolex watches to the peak of Everest in 1953, but they were not Explorer models – although their achievement helped inspire the model). Reference 1016 was launched in 1963, and ran for 27 years. The service papers from Rolex are a mixed bag. Yes, the watch is running superbly and we know they would ensure every part of the watch is genuine Rolex. But Rolex also have a policy of making things like new, by replacing worn items with new, The bracelet is a service item, denoted by a S on the clasp next to the randomised date code. The dial is original tritium item, which is important, but the hands are service replacements. You can see they glow brighter than the dial, when ideally they would be the same. But that does make this cheaper, and it is rare to find any 1016 Explorer under £10,000*. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, [SpareLinks.com](https://sparelinks.com/) , may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and the watch will get an extra clean before being sent out. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and clasp. *There are an increasing number of Rolex reference 5500 models with Explorer dials – these are based on the Air-King models and are 2mm smaller in case size. This watch will be supplied with the original Rolex service pouch and service card from 2015, which has the matching serial number for this watch, and our Certificate of Authenticity. This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
