Ressence Type 8 Cobalt Blue Dial Stainless Steel
Founded in 2010, Ressence has become one of the most visually unique and technically innovative independent watchmakers of the last decade. As part of this drive to create visually novel timepieces, Ressence fit their timepieces with one of the most unique displays in all of watchmaking, a collection of small subdial satellites that rotate around the display as time passes, thus resulting in a watch whose display is constantly changing. Designing watches the likes of which have never been seen before, Ressence’s unique approach to watchmaking has created a design language that is traceable only to them. Powered by a patented system called the ROCS 8, or the ‘Ressence Orbital Convex System’ as the brand calls it, that comprises of 20 gears and 31jewels and 4 ball bearings, the Type 8 is a true feat of craftsmanship and engineering that truly seems to have come from a sci-fi movie rather than an artisanal Swiss watchmaker. Made of titanium and featuring a beautiful cobalt blue dial, this example is a beautifully monochromatic timepiece that is understated in design but stunning in execution. Wound and set via its caseback and thus lacking a winding crown, the Type 8 wears incredibly neat on the wrist much like the disco volante watches of old thanks to its circular case design and lug-free profile that allows this watch to wear smaller than its billed diameter of 42.9mm might first have you believe.
THE DIAL Featuring an uncharacteristically clean display, the Type 8's dial only features the hours and minutes, which are represented through a subdial and lone minute hand that rotate around the cobalt blue dial, respectively.
THE CONSTRUCTION Boasting a 42.9mm diameter, the Type 8's lug-free design and circular profile enables it to wear neat on the wrist like a jumbo disco volante-style watch.
