I purchased this particular piece at an auction recently. It was running but had some issues with the chronograph but has now been fully serviced and is running beautifully, keeping time well and the chronograph fully functioning. This sale is for the watch only though it comes with 5 extra links. It is currently sized for my wrist at a little under 7 inches with the micro adjust clasp set to full extension, so plenty of room to adjust. The watch wears really well- it is about 14mm thick but it doesn’t feel too hefty or cumbersome. There is a beautiful age to the watch with the original black PVD now faded to more of a gun metal grey. While there is some aging to the watch this is as you would expect with a piece that is nearly 50 years old. The crystal is in lovely condition and there are no dings to the case, just light scratches. In short, it’s got great character. If you are looking for something a little different or love vintage chronos, this a great choice. The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 is a storied watch, not only being the first piece designed in Ferdinand Porsche’s new design studio and drawing inspiration from the iconic 911’s dashboard, but also the first watch to feature a black PVD coating. Something of a talking point at the time. This is also the model famously worn by Tom Cruise in Top Gun and Maverick. Got your Sean Connery Sub and your Pierce Brosnan Seamaster? This could be next! The 7176s model here uses the Lemania 5100 movement, which was famed for being something of a workhorse. This movement coupled with the Porsche Design line on the dial marks this as a later 70s model, probably after 1975. Earlier models bore the Orfina logo and were powered by either a Valjoux or ETA movement. This is a great piece with lots of talking points, so something interesting for your wrist. It has a day/date function, 24 hour sub dial at 12 ‘o’clock and a full chronograph. The chrono pushers are strong and work well as does the screw down crown. As with all vintage watches I would advise keeping well away from water. I’m UK based and would prefer to ship to the UK.
