Rare 1960s Piaget Protocole for Cartier 18k Gold Watch, Gift from Sammy Davis Jr

1960s Cartier By Piaget Protocole Watch in 18k Gold, Personally Gifted by Sammy Davis Jr. to Sol Shapiro (his longtime agent in the early 70s). Ref. 9151 Piaget 9P 18J Manual Wind Movement. Make: Piaget retailed by Cartier. Serial #: 109051 (from outer case back). Year: (approximate) 1969. Provenance: unknown. Country: Swiss. Case Shape and Material: fine solid yellow gold tanq style 2 piece press fit case 33mm L x 25mm wide in very good condition. Inner case back marked 'Piaget' and hallmarked with a Swiss Lynx for 18K imported gold and then '18K .750'. Left side of case has a small Helvetia hallmark (for 18k gold) and right side has a stylized 'P' stamp for Piaget. Bezel has hobnail pattern decoration. Monogram: Dedication on Case back 'To Sol, G-d Bless You, Sammy'. Provenance: Sol [Shapiro] was a show biz agent at the William Morris Agency during the 1960s and 1970s and was in fact the personal agent for Sammy Davis Jr., Jerry Lewis, Danny Thomas, Elvis Presley and others. This Cartier Piaget watch was gifted to Sol by Sammy Davis Jr. in appreciation of his services to Sammy in the early 70s. Movement: Hi grade 18 jewel Piaget signed 9P manual wind movement. Dial: White painted dial with black painted roman hour markers and outer minute tick marks in good condition signed 'Cartier' under the 12 position and 'Piaget' over the 6 marker. Hands: black pitched leaf hands in good condition. Crystal: mineral glass good condition with a few minor scratches. Band: Original Piaget black croco grain with 18k gold Piaget logo buckle fits wrist sizes to 7 inches. Box: Original Cartier red faux leather display box suitable for gifting in good condition. Papers: comes with a small collection of documents and newspapers reprints describing the relationship of Sammy Davis, Jr, to his agent Sol Shapiro. Notes: Very fine vintage 1960s Cartier by Piaget Protocole manual wind watch in 18k yellow gold in a two part case. Dial is doubly signed by Cartier and Piaget. Watch is in very nice condition runs but will need a service to keep reliable time.
