Patek Philippe Open Faced Pocket Watch Platinum Retailed by Tiffany & Co

Famed for their intensely luxurious eye for detail and unparalleled heritage within the watchmaking industry, Patek Philippe has long been at the top of the horology pyramid. While their modern plaudits come from their infamously desirable wristwatches, the brand began life creating pocket watches, much like other watchmakers that began life during the 19th century and before. As such, it is pocket watches, like the example we have here draws attention to Patek Philippe’s original legendary aesthetic and unwavering level of craftsmanship. Featuring a platinum construction, a stunning silver dial with black painted Greek-style Arabic numerals alongside beautiful blued steel Breguet hands, crisp black inscriptions and a sunken subdials at 6 o’clock for its running seconds, this example’s display retains an aesthetic that speaks to the 1920s, which is when it was made. Offered in an extremely svelte construction, this example is quite thin for pocket watches of the time, and so this example serves to highlight Patek’s incredible reputation as one of horology’s best watchmakers in a less extravagant manner, much like its choice of platinum as its construction material instead of gold. THE DIAL Boasting a stunning silver dial with a unique font for its Arabic numerals, this pocket watch's dial is immediately reminiscent of the 1920s. However, what makes this example so special is its lack of Patek branding, which is replaced by Tiffany & Co.'s signature at 12 o'clock, whom originally retailed the watch. THE MOVEMENT Powered by a manual-wind 20 movement, this Tiffany-retailed pocket watch features incredible finishing, detailing, and engineering as its parts combine to create a truly impressive horological masterpiece that only continues to impress once you get to grips with the fact this watch was made by hand over 100 years ago.
